SNOHOMISH BACKROADS - SELF GUIDED
Looking for a half-day ride that’s low-key, scenic, and just plain enjoyable?
This self-guided route is one of our “best kept secrets.” It winds the backroads through forests, quiet lakes, rolling farmland, and a few stretches of easy two-lane twisties—all with the promise of ice cream along the way.
We’ve taken this ride to work when we wanted to skip the traffic, or home at the end of the day when we needed to unwind. It’s the kind of route where you can sit back, cue up some music, maybe set the cruise, and just rumble along while thanking the Good Lord for the blessing of seeing the world from the seat of a Harley.
It’s not a fast run—hidden driveways and plenty of wildlife keep you alert—but it’s peaceful and full of character. You’ll pass through small towns and communities with names like Granite Falls, Sultan, High Rock, and Lake Roesinger. Roadside oddities will tempt you to pull over, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop and explore whatever catches your fancy.
The route begins at Sound Harley-Davidson:
-
Take Hwy 9 to State Route 92, then onto Robe Menzel Road, which winds through forest and lake country toward Woods Creek.
-
Continue onto the old pipeline road—just when you think you’re lost, some strategic twisties drop you into Sultan.
-
Cross the tracks, roll over the old wooden bridge, and hang a right at the scarecrow.
-
Follow the Skykomish River, with more exhilarating curves climbing High Rock before descending to the confluence of the Skykomish and Snohomish Rivers.
-
Pick up Elliot Road back to Hwy 9, where the Snohomish River guides you upstream once more.

A ride that’s part escape, part discovery—perfect for when you want to trade speed for serenity.
