RUN FOR THE CANADIAN BORDER - Self Guided

You can leave your passport at home for this one—no border crossing, no awkward questions about what’s in your saddlebag. The Peace Arch Ride is pure Northwest back-roads magic. You’ll meander through the hidden corners of Whatcom County, rolling over a quaint one-lane bridge that looks like it belongs on a postcard and catching glimpses of Mount Baker’s snowy crown from angles you didn’t even know existed.

As the road twists into the foothills, you’ll feel the scenery shift—mountain roads lined with evergreens, farmland rolling away on both sides—and then suddenly you’re in the Dutch-themed town of Lynden.  Hungry?  You can park by the public restroom (glamorous, I know) and take a short walk to Avenue Bread for lunch. Great sandwiches, fresh baked goods—think “fuel stop” for humans.

Whether you opt for lunch or not, keep heading north to Peace Arch Park and the iconic U.S.–Canada border monument. You’ll be able to snap a photo where two nations literally meet—and where countless bikers have done their “look at me, Mom, I’m at the border” pose with one foot across the line.   The loop continues skirting the bay to the historic town of Blaine, and on to Birch Bay State Park.  On a side note, Blaine is a biker friendly town with many coffee houses and pubs that have back decks that look out over the Pacific.

When it’s time to head back, you get to choose your own adventure. The GPX file will guide you on the scenic back-roads route—great for riders who want every twist, turn, and small-town wave. But if you’re pressed for time (or your backside is), hop on I-5 and shave off about an hour. In a real pinch, you can jump on I-5 directly from Peace Arch Park and be back at Sound Harley-Davidson up to an hour and half sooner.
