ANACORTES - Self Guided

This ride will ultimately take you to Anacortes, but there is a lot to see along the way.   Starting with La Connor and the Rainbow Bridge on the way to Similk Bay, Mt Erie, Lake Campbell, Burrows Bay this ride will ultimately take you to  Anacortes.

The road to the summit of Mt Erie is narrow and challenging since it is continuously uphill. Parking at the summit is limited and mostly uneven ground. However, the views of the area are quite spectacular from all three of the lookout points. From one of the lookouts, you will see Goodin Island on Lake Campbell. There are very few places on Earth where there is an island on a lake which is on an island. Mt Erie is on Fidalgo Island.

Advice:  Consider the skill level of your group before challenging the road to Mt Erie. If desired, you can skip the summit and continue the route.

After Mt Erie you will wind along the Marine Drive with glimpses of Burrows Bay between the homes.   Anacortes is a lively waterfront town known as the gateway to the San Juan Islands — and the proud home of the legendary Oyster Run, the largest motorcycle rally in the Pacific Northwest, held the last Sunday in September.  With a downtown full of seafood spots, art galleries, and sweeping views of Guemes Island and Fidalgo Bay, we recommend a stretch stop in downtown Anacortes.

Leave Anacortes on Highway 20 and cross the Swinomish Channel as you climb the twin bridge. Be sure to enjoy the view in all directions as you crest the top of the bridges. We live in a beautiful place.  If you are looking for some local fare for lunch, try the Old Edison Pub. They have fish and chips, fried oysters, oyster shooters and some pub games. You can head back to the Dealership from there, or branch out for some more exploring.

The ride to Anacortes is a Pacific Northwest favorite — a scenic cruise that winds through farmland, forests, and island-dotted horizons.
